How different is SEO from SEM
Changes on internet: Internet is still growing and will expand to new arenas in the years to come. Till now we have seen a lot of concepts emerging and techniques to evolve on it. The existing technologies have also undergone vast changes and have become more efficient. With the change in these technologies, they also acquired new names by which people now recognize them. If anyone is asked
to tell what a particular term means, the answer will vary from what another person will answer. The concept of the term ‘webmaster’ changes for different people. You must have noticed that in certain articles and blogs, this term refers to a leader who is in charge of a team of writers, developers, marketers, technical supporters and more. Or it can be that it is a person who has gained expertise to the level of performing all these activities. There are two concepts known as SEM (Search Engine Marketing) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). People often consider these two terms to be the same but the truth is that there is a noticeable difference between these two.
What is SEO: Search Engine Marketing or SEM, for instance is a term that includes many other terms. It includes the working with search engines and marketing websites on them, in a promotional manner. It aims to
increase the traffic to that site and bring profit, for the sites that work for businesses. Going by this definition, SEO is actually a part of SEM. It is like the Venn Diagram, where SEM is the universal set and SEO is a sub set, a part of it. Now if you want to know what is included in the SEO activities or rather, what is out of it, it is all that is not directly optimizing of the website. SEO is very much an organic process and the business owner doesn’t need to pay more than once for it. The traditional advertisements like the paid ones that are based on the keywords are definitely not part of SEO. Therefore it is obvious that PPC or Pay Per Click is definitely not a part of SEO. In this, you need to pay to the service provider every time someone clicks on the ad and goes to your website. You do have to pay but it is also true that you can also manage everything about your website, right from the keywords to content and how it will be marketed. But it is true that it is going to take some time for you as you invest time in it for campaigning it, like adjusting it and arranging it.
We conclude: It is however true that SEO is more powerful than these put together, though all play important roles. If you are a startup or are now venturing into internet marketing for your website, SEO should be your initiation in this. Though you need to shell out for the paid services, yet SEO should be the priority.
