About anchor text:

Anchor text is the word or phrase which is in blue and underlined in a website’s content. This underlined text is clickable and it takes you to other web page in your website or may work as a link to another website. This helps the audience to know more about the particular topic. There is a big confusion among the SEO professionals regarding the importance of anchor text. There are two groups right now, among which one states the importance of anchor texts which can’t be avoided, while the other group thinks it to be extinct.

Anchor texts may become less importance:

Of late Google has declared that it is going to introduce new methods which will eventually reduce the importance of anchor texts. While we don’t know how much it has been in effect already, it is obvious that the search engine has decided this due to the misuse of anchor texts. As anchor texts are used for linking and backlinks, many websites use them in inappropriate ways. While anchor texts are supposed to be placed owing to its relevance to the text and shouldn’t be used many times in the site, it has been seen that webmasters have indulged otherwise for quick success of their sites.

Anchor title:

While this isn’t so important, it is a factor which has the role in describing what the link is about and to where it will lead the visitor. It is actually a small box which appears when you place the cursor over a link. The content around the anchor text or the link should be relevant for it helps the reader to understand about the anchor text. The page title and the body of the content is important and you must take care of these.

• Body of content: The entire text in the website is known as its content. The link is placed at right places in the content. It is suggested to keep the link or the anchor text in the upper part of the content while the ones of secondary importance is placed in the second and later paragraphs. Google and other search engines try to understand the importance of the anchor text and where it can point through this surrounding content.
• Page Title: It is on the topmost part of the browser on the left part. This helps in giving you a quick idea of about the webpage. The entire page link is affected by it.

The current situation:

Though Google has stated that it is going to take measures to reduce the importance of anchor text (as said before), it hasn’t taken any step as such. Though webmasters aren’t running after it, the importance of anchor text still prevails and guides audience in getting more information from relevant sources. It is strongly recommended to keep it amidst relevant content and never to try any black hat SEO trick with it or else Google will catch you and penalize you for sure.
