Google is about to show ‘m’ or ‘www’ before the URLs in the address bar of chrome. This is performed after the decision for removing ‘m’ or ‘www’ was met with vast user grievances. While releasing Chrome 69 last week, everybody was made surprised when ‘m’ or ‘www’ were not shown in the address bar anymore. It seems that Google is giving favor by eliminating those elements of the URLs but afterwards criticism has told other thing.

The major concern includes hiding ‘www’ and ‘m’ since it had made a phishing threat among the users. This change has been reversed by Google. According to its statement, In Chrome M69 Google had accomplished a change for hiding sub domains with special case ‘m’ or ‘www’ in the omnibox of Chrome. After getting feedback from the community on those modifications, Google took decision to reverse those changes in M69 in Chrome for both Android and Desktop.

However this modification is not permanent. Google has announced that it would hide the ‘m’ or ‘www’ sub domain while Chrome 70 will roll out. In its inclusion, Google informed that they are planning to launch an adjusted version in which “www” will be included. They informed that “m” will not be included in M70 since big websites are there with “m” sub domain which is user-controlled. According to an enhanced consent of the community, websites should not let the “www” sub domain to become user controlled.

A discussion with standard bodies is planned by Google about keeping ‘m’ or ‘www’ as “special case sub domains regarding this”. The discussion would be extended to the enhanced community of chrome users.

Withdrawing sub domains like ‘m’ or ‘www’ would be performed by Google shortly but it should consider about the safety of the users. Google should explain the benefits of withdrawing sub domains like ‘m’ or ‘www’ for the users. They should also ensure that no phishing threats would be there by accomplishing the operation.
