Google’s Patent for Rating sites on their Quality

Google’s patent on website rating:

Google has always been worried about the websites, how they are performing. By this we mean the search engine makes sure that none of the websites in it search results are using any unfair means of optimization. Google has had enough of all the black hat SEO Google’s Patent tricks played by the website owners and SEOs time and again and it had stopped them to a great extent with its updates and other such norms. It seems that Google has decided to carry on with that and keep surprising (or rather shocking for the ones who do wrong) and thus, it came up with a certain patent which got granted last year.

This patent is a model, which examines the features and qualities of a site to understand whether it is readable and navigable. It explains how websites can get ratings based on the human ratings for them. It also checks different signals like the social media signals as well.

What the patent says:

The patent which got granted explains us the advantage of its nature. With its approach to test the human ratings and other qualities of a website, it makes sure that the website is readable and is perfect for humans. It had been often that the websites have tried to put keyword stuffed content, in order to get better ranks. They were successful in the beginning and people were not at all happy with the type of content and information they were getting in the search results. It took less time for the search engine to realize this and it was greatly offended.

But with attempts like its Panda update and a patent like this, things will never go wrong. User satisfaction is important for Google and it will be so. The sites too will get to rank in the search results on the basis of their quality. The patent also enables the search engine to view and understand the quality of the site easily, without needing to study the human behaviour and reaction for that site.

How it will work:

It seems that Google is planning to improve the quality of search result more than penalizing the sites for any improper actions. The patent aims at rating the web pages from 1 to 5. In this the web pages which get 1 or less than that is of poor quality and the ones with 5 or near to that score, is of superior quality. Now this score is settled on the basis of the information on the site, Google’s Patent whether they are real and useful, the layout of that site, If the site has anything which is inappropriate, The total quantity of the original content, if there is any copied or plagiarised content, etc. The spelling and grammatical errors will also be counted in this regard. The websites should also not have any blank page or content on it which is totally irrelevant. There will also be a checking on the appeal of the site, whether it has a broad appeal or a narrow appeal. However, since this is purely based on the type of the website, it may not be taken much into account.

For Social Media: Google has always been paranoid of the websites trying to have some unethical strategies applied. It therefore, had all these updates made which would remove or drown the websites which are of low quality and are using such strategies for their success. With the help of a new patent by Google, the websites will be rated on their quality. It won’t penalize though, for it is more like an examining tool which helps to aware Google of the quality of each sites and also the website owners of their mistakes.
