LinkedIn’s Two-Step Verification and how you enable it

LinkedIn’ two-step verification: It seems that the social media sites are becoming constantly afraid of the various issues that occur due to people misusing its privacy rules and control. There have been major reports of hacking on Twitter and LinkedIn platform and the news has spread like fire to everyone. It will surely make the users think whether it is safe to continue with these social networking sites. In order to prevent further hacking Twitter decided to come with a two-step verification process. It was seen that within a week of the launch of this by the social networking site, LinkedIn followed the LinkedInsuite and came up with its own two-step versification process. LinkedIn announced the advent of this strategy to all its users on a blog and also stated that the accounts in it are protected well with series of checks that are automated and can very well prevent suspicious and unauthorized attempts for signing in of the accounts. It then stated that along with this it has also introduced a two-step verification process which will make things safer. It must not simply done by the site due to Twitter doing it, but also due to the amount of hacking activities in the last year that was carried out on this platform. Last year a hacker of Russian nationality got away with 6 million passwords or even more. Several accounts that are connected directly or indirectly to media or belonged to media have been hacked.

Others have taken it up too: This security measure is also taken by Facebook, Microsoft and many others for better security features. When you once enable this, you are going to get a pass key that is a one-time for your mobile. If you enter the correct passkey then you get access. This is good since it will prevent any unauthorized access to your account and this works even if your password isn’t safe anymore.

How you do it:

  • You need to log in to your account in LinkedIn and click on the top right corner of the page, over your name and then select setting from the drop down list.
  • LinkedInOnce you have clicked settings you need to scroll down the page to the very end of the page and there you will see four tabs arranged vertically.
  • From that select the ‘Account’ tab and select on ‘Manage Security Settings’.
  • Once you have done this, click on the ‘Turn On’ link in the ‘Security Settings’ option.
  • The ‘Turn On’ links is below the sign in section for the verification. You will then need to enter your phone number.
  • LinkedIn will then send you a one-time pass key to the number that you have provided.
  • You will get a verification code on your mobile which is a verification process.
  • You need to go to the next page and enter that provided number. Once you have done with this, the feature will be enabled for your LinkedIn account.
